It’s been a few years since Justin Wong, the winningest and most celebrated Marvel vs. Capcom 2 player in history, updated his ratio tier list for the chaotic three on three fighter.
Don’t worry, though, as the Marvel master has taken the time to roll out a new version of his roster ordering, this time with an interesting new twist: the inclusion of “-1” characters.
If you’re wondering what a ratio tier list is, we can break that down first. Since Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a team game (you choose three separate characters every match) it’s become somewhat common for the community to challenge themselves by putting together tier lists with special restrictions.
Said lists do still ultimately present the player’s opinion about the strength and ordering of the game’s characters, but instead of being placed into traditional letter grade categories, the characters are assigned numerical values.
Top tier characters are in the 5 point level, high tiers are then assigned to 4 points, and the pattern continues with 3, 2, 1, 0 and -1. Once the list has been completed, the idea is to try to create viable teams that do not exceed a total of seven points of value.
Choose a top tier, for instance, and you only have a mere 2 points left to spend on two additional characters. By adding the uncommon -1 tier, however, Justin opens up new possibilities as you could pair two 4 pointers with a -1, or even a 5 and a 3 with a -1.
