A shocking incident has left a 31-year-old hair stylist, Blessing, fighting for her life after her neighbour, Ejike, a married man and father of two, poured hot water on her breast and face in Port Harcourt.
The horrific event occurred on Azikiwe Street, Mile 2 Diobu, when Blessing entered the compound to retrieve boiled water from an electric kettle for a customer’s hair treatment. Tragically, Ejike’s son accidentally collided with Blessing, causing some hot water to spill on the ground and slightly scald the child’s leg.
Witnesses reported that as Blessing sympathized with the little boy, Ejike emerged from his room, inquired about the incident, and was informed by neighbours.
In a shocking turn of events, Ejike allegedly picked up the kettle and poured the remaining hot water on Blessing’s breast and face.
Ejike immediately fled the scene, leaving Blessing severely injured. She was rushed to the Azikiwe Police Division, Ilabouchi, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, where she received a police medical form and was taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
Meanwhile the family of Blessing is demanding for justice on the matter.
The elder brother to the victim, Goodluck Nwankwo in a very brief speech with Journalists said:
“We want the Police to get the youngman arrested,then if he is arrested he will see what he did to my sister.
“Is not right,I have to do the necessary thing so that Government can take over the matter.I want justice to be done.
“Due to the medical attention they have given her yesterday, she is getting small better but the problem is the money in that place is very much,which I have spend alot,I dont have much to spend.
“I am thinking of if I have to go back to Anambra state and come back,may be on Saturday I come”
People who saw Blessing reported that the burns on the breast as result of the hot water is very severe.
The spokesperson for Rivers State Police Command,SP Grace Iringe Koko was yet to respond to enquiry on the matter but multiple Police sources confirmed the incident.
As at press time, the Police is making frantic efforts to apprehend Mr Ejike who is still on the run.
