Coyote Central, a local organization that helps nurture creativity in young minds, recently announced the selection of Marlette Buchanan as their new Executive Director.  According to officials with the program, Buchanan’s appointment signals a new and exciting chapter for Coyote Central as it continues to inspire and empower the next generation of creative minds.

“I can’t express enough how grateful I am for the warm welcome to the Coyote Central family. It’s truly an honor to be part of such an incredible organization with a team of staff who are nothing short of amazing,” Buchanan shared. “Already, I’ve witnessed firsthand the great work that’s being done for our youth and the community, and I’m excited to contribute to it.”

Buchanan, with a background as an educator, performing artist, and community leader in the arts and culture sector, is uniquely positioned to guide Coyote Central towards a future rooted in youth, creativity, and community.

“I’m thrilled to share my goals for the future of Coyote Central. We’re looking to expand our social justice activities, advocate for policies that support youth development and creative expression, and strengthen our overall operations,” Buchanan continued, highlighting her commitment to the organization’s mission.

Having previously served as the Director of Program Services with Launch and as the Executive Director of Seattle Music Partners, Buchanan brings a wealth of leadership experience to Coyote Central. She also served as the Arts & Community Development Manager for Pierce County government, showcasing her dedication to community service.

Beyond her leadership roles, Buchanan is a seasoned performing artist, having recorded with various artists and graced stages across the Northwest, including notable venues like the 5th Avenue Theatre, Seattle Opera, and Village Theatre. Her contributions extend to the film industry, where she served as the soloist in the documentary “Freedom Riders” (2010) and appeared in the feature film “The Details” (2011). Buchanan holds a Master’s degree from Boston University and a Bachelor of Arts from Fisk University. She is currently completing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands.

Buchanan and the Coyote Central staff are inviting the public to an Open House on December 13th from 5:30-7:30 pm as part of their Fall Showcase. This event, held at 2300 East Cherry Street in the Central District, is a unique opportunity for all ages to experience the projects crafted by Coyote youth during the Fall quarter.

Coyote Central, known for sparking creativity in youth, operates its Studio Coyote program for ages 10-15, encouraging young minds to take creative risks with the guidance of skilled teachers and volunteers. Courses in various mediums are offered with a pay-what-works-for-you tuition model. Equity is at the core of Coyote Central’s vision, aiming to create access and opportunities for all youth.
