Several passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries on Friday morning following a commercial bus accident at Ahmadiyya, inward Abule-Egba, Lagos State.
It was gathered that the accident occurred when the bus, driven at excessive speed, lost control, allegedly due to the driver’s impatience.
In a bid to avoid colliding with another commercial bus and pedestrians waiting by the roadside, the driver veered sharply, causing the bus to crash into the expressway median and over turned.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident.
He stated that LASTMA operatives at the scene rescued eight victims, including the driver, who suffered a fractured left arm.
“Several passengers sustained injuries, while others escaped through the bus’s windows,” Adebayo explained.
“Eight individuals, including five males and three females, suffered varying degrees of injuries.
“Among the injured was the bus driver, who sustained a fractured left arm.
“All victims were immediately handed over to LASAMBUS medical personnel and transported to the General Hospital at Ile-Epo for urgent medical attention.”
Reacting to the incident, LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended his sympathies to the injured passengers and wished them a speedy recovery.
He underscored the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, particularly speed limits set by the Lagos State Government.
Bakare-Oki further urged commercial and private vehicle operators to prioritize regular vehicle maintenance, especially of critical systems such as brakes, to prevent avoidable accidents.
