Manchester United is now settling into life with Ruben Amorim at the helm, a week after his arrival.
Amorim took his first training session at Carrington today, with his work visa now in place.
With most of his first team off on international duty, the Portuguese manager focused on his retained stars, either due to missing the cut for national teams or through injury.
It’s also been reported that some youth stars like Godwill Kukonki were invited to take part to make up numbers.
However, this is likely to be a more frequent event, with United wanting Amorim to focus more on developing the existing options.
Manchester United’s transfer plans and squad development for Ruben Amorim
The Telegraph has reported that the 39-year-old will be tasked with getting the most out of the current options in the squad instead of turning to the transfer market.
United spent £200 million on transfers this summer for Erik ten Hag which saw The Red Devils drop to 14th place in the Premier League.
As such, the club believe they already have the talent in the team, it just needs to be harnessed. They want to get away from a culture of overhauling the squad regularly and paying extortionate amounts for players.
On average, United have made five signings every summer for the last 10 years, with it being 11 years since their last Premier League title.
Under Erik ten Hag’s reign, in two and a half years the club spent £600 million on transfers with only two trophies to show for it.
Now, United are implementing a more sustainable structure to have a more consistent squad to better develop team chemistry and ability. As such, future transfer windows will be navigated with a “modest budget”.
United are hoping that Amorim will be the key to this, being able to cultivate the talent of the youth academy and get the best out of the existing squad.
