Manchester United are on the verge of their fist major signing of the summer with three ongoing deals looking close to completion.
Over the recent weeks, United have been targeting Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee, Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and LOSC Lille’s Leny Yoro, with all in advanced stages of negotiations.
So where are we with each of these massive signings?
Well, Joshua Zirkzee is as close to being a United player as can be without putting on the shirt.
After a battle with AC Milan for the Netherlands international, a deal has been agreed between the two clubs coming in at €40 million which is just over the release clause value, and is set to be paid over three years. The striker has also agreed terms with United and has accepted a contract which would see him at the club for five years until 2029, however United have the opportunity to extend by an extra year if they wish to do so.
Sky Sports have reported that Zirkzee is completing a medical examination today which is one of the final steps before any completion of a deal, so we can expect to see the official announcement in the coming days.
As for Matthijs de Ligt, the Dutch defender is keen to reunite with Erik ten Hag after their time at Ajax together and has agreed personal terms with the Red Devils after numerous calls with ten Hag, although the details of the terms are unknown at this time.
Reports claim that the conversations with Bayern are progressing positively with the centre-back having a price tag on him of £42 million which United appear to be happy with knowing his track record.
Finally we have Leny Yoro, the most recent and aggressive of all the deals.
Despite an offer in from Real Madrid, with Yoro wanting to move to the Spanish capital, United stormed in with a €50 million bid for the 18-year-old which exceeded Madrid’s offer. As a result, Lille’s preference would be for Yoro to move to Old Trafford, and although Madrid initially remained confident of their bid for the French defender’s signature, in now looks like their wavering.
The LaLiga champions have recently looked for alternatives for Yoro should the deal not go through, showing they are now less than certain of acquiring their target.
And just in case that’s not enough, the Red Devils are still considering another offer for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite having not given up on their previous unsuccessful offer.
The most recent news was that United were considering a swap deal for the centre-back, using Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the deal, however with both defenders now being targeted by Turkish clubs Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, enough funds may come in for the Red Devils to make another revised offer for Branthwaite as a cash only deal.
