The club has officially announced that Salford-born left-winger Samuel Mather has signed a new long-term contract at Manchester United.
The details of the contract are unknown, however the deal will see young Mather at Old Trafford until June 2027. United do however have an option to extend the contract by a further season.
The 19-year-old winger spent the second half of last season on loan to Rochdale where he got two goals in ten appearances.
Featuring in the second half of United’s pre-season friendly with Rangers, Mathers had a strong showing, helping the team secure a 2-0 win.
Samuel Mather and Ethan Ennis were both involved in United’s 2022 FA Youth Cup triumph and have developed well since.
Versatility is a trait highly valued by Ten Hag and the Salford-born star will be hoping to catch the manager’s eye in training.
The England U19 international scored four goals in a single game last term against Norwich reserves in the Premier League 2 while also netting one more in PL 2 and one in the PL 2 playoffs against Arsenal.
The former FA Youth Cup champion was sent to Rochdale on a flexi-loan during the second-half of the season to help him gain experience from playing games in a senior team environment while also benefiting from staying and training at Carrington.
He netted twice in six starts in the National League and will be hoping to earn another loan move, this time to a club higher in the pyramid in the upcoming season.
