This summer was a highly eventful transfer window for Manchester United, bringing in some top talents, whilst also getting rid of several stars no longer needed at Old Trafford.
With regards to inbound players, United managed to sign Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte, without even starting on the exciting talent brought into the youth academy.
However, the club managed to offload more than they signed.
Two of the biggest sales were those of Scott McTominay to Napoli and Mason Greenwood to Marseille, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka also joining West Ham.
Alongside these departures, the likes of Willy Kambwala, Hannibal, Alvaro Carreras, Facundo Pellistri and Donny van de Beek were also sold, with Jadon Sancho on loan at Chelsea.
But this wasn’t the end of the long list of departures, as Omari Forson and Raphael Varane have both moved on through free transfers, whilst Anthony Martial and Brandon Williams are without a club.
However, new reports suggest that United are about to do a U-turn and attempt to resign one of their recent departures.
Manchester United continue to monitor Alvaro Carreras
Since arriving at Benfica, Alvaro Carreras has hit the ground running and is shining in the left-back position. The 21-year-old has already established himself in the starting lineup and as such is drawing attention to himself from some top clubs in Europe.
Ojogo has reported that the left-back is the centre of attention from Real Madrid, Barcelona and former side, Manchester United.
The report explains that the level of monitoring is high, with the clubs watching the defender in person, and collecting a range of data to formulate a scouting report.
United still have a significant issue with their left-back role, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia still out injured, leaving right-back Diogo Dalot to cover the role.
This means that since the start of the year, United have been without a natural left-back, having not recruited one over the summer.
United sold the defender this summer to Benfica for £5 million (€6 million), however, the release clause for the star is £41.8 million (€50 million), putting Benfica in a strong position to negotiate.
However, United ensured a buy-back clause was included in the deal to be able to resign the star at a later date.
Whilst it’s unknown what the clause entails, it’s understood that United are looking at triggering this to bring the 121-year-old back to Old Trafford.
