Manchester United are set to miss out on the signing of one of their long-term wonderkid targets, as Manchester City meet with the star over a potential move.
The Red Devils have been monitoring Sverre Halseth Nypan since the summer, even facing him in the pre-season friendlies as United travelled to Rosenborg, losing 1-0.
As the midfielder is only 17 years old, United had to wait until the winter transfer window to make a move for the star, with his 18th birthday in December.
Brexit rules prevented United from making a move in the summer, however The Red Devils may have now left a move to late.
Excitement peaked as Nypan was reported as currently flying to Manchester to meet with a Premier League club.
Given United’s long-standing interest, it seemed set for the Norwegian to be heading to Old Trafford to join Ruben Amorim’s men.
However, Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed otherwise.

It’s understood to include a potential loan to LaLiga side Girona, with Nypan wanting to take time to consider all his options.
Previously it was understood that Nypan wanted to see out the rest of the season with Rosenborg, however with a week left of the transfer window, we won’t have to wait long to learn of his fate.
