Manchester United are advancing their pursuit of a world-class star from Bayern Munich.
Despite a limited transfer budget being allocated going forward, The Red Devils are still looking to bring in top players to strengthen their squad.
Whilst the squad has fitted into Amorim’s system, either naturally like Manuel Ugarte, or by adapting their play slightly like Noussair Mazraoui, there are still some positions that need work.
Primarily, the left-back role continues to be a pain point for the club.
Throughout last season Diogo Dalot covered the left-back role due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Now, Malacia is back, taking to the pitch against Arsenal, whilst Shaw is once more injured.
As such, United are once more looking for a left-back, however, this time to fit the left-win-back role that Amorim relies on.
Their search has brought them to Germany, settling on Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich.
Manchester United advance interest in Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich
It’s been known for some time now that Alphonso Davies is at the top of United’s left-back shortlist.
The Canada international is coming to the end of his contract in the summer, making him eligible for a pre-contract agreement in January, signing the star as a free transfer.
As such, Christian Falk has now reported that United have now requested a sit-down with Davies and his manager in January.
United appear to be the front-runner for Davies, set to beat Real Madrid, with the club offering him a “blank cheque” to decide his wage, which looks set to be £13.5 million per year. The salary request has also been made to Bayern who are yet to agree.
The club have also not agreed to the £12.5 million signing-on fee that Davies wants, stalling any contract negotiations.
