Manchester United are leading the way for one of their priority young targets this January.
The Red Devils are pushing to sign two young stars as long-term replacements to Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.
However, with the recent news that Sunderland will not be even considering any offers for their “generational talent” Chris Rigg, attention has fully turned to their other option.
Rigg has been labelled as “the next Jude Bellingham” with United’s other key target being compared with Martin Odegaard.
Rosenborg’s Sverre Halseth Nypan has been a target for Manchester United for some time now. The club have routinely sent scouts to Norway to monitor the 17-year-old’s progress.
However, Brexit rules have prevented the Premier League club from officially moving for Nypan as he’s under the age of 18.
The young midfielder has his birthday in December though, making him fair game for January.
However, they aren’t alone in wanting to sign him, with Nypan attracting attention from across Europe.
GiveMeSport has reported that Nypan is aware of the interest and is now “wanting assurances” ahead of agreeing to any move.
His future at Rosenborg is uncertain with the star “carefully considering his preferred destination” looking for a “fresh challenge away from Rosenborg in 2025”.
The report explains Nypan will “prioritise seeking assurances” for first team football when deciding his next team.
This may be an issue for United, with Nypan having to compete against Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount for his spot if he does join.
United appear to be considering Nypan as a long-term signing for the future as opposed to an instant fit into the first-squad.
Time will tell if United can secure the 17-year-old, with his future at Rosenborg looking even less certain.
