Manchester United are desperate to add attacking depth to their side as Ruben Amorim is set to arrive at Carrington in a few days.
They have scored just nine goals in 10 Premier League games this season – the third fewest of any team.
Only 17th-place Crystal Palace (eight) and last-place Wolves (seven) have managed less.
Despite the summer addition of Joshua Zirkzee, no inroads have been made into solving United’s goalscoring issues from last season, where they tallied their third-fewest goals in a Premier League season ever (57).
The club now have their eyes set on a Bundesliga winger whose contract is set to expire next season.

Leroy Sane will be a free agent next summer and has attracted interest from United, according to Christian Falk.
The Red Devils have already enquired about his availability, as they look to strengthen the right wing position with Antony potentially set to leave.
However, United will have to fend off interest from Arsenal if they are to secure Sane’s signature.
Mikel Arteta previously worked with the German winger when they were at Manchester City together under Pep Guardiola.

Sane will wait for contract negotiations with Bayern before making a decision on his future and has not engaged in advanced talks with any other clubs yet.
The 28-year-old is valued at €60million by Transfermarkt and is coming off a solid season.
Last term, he logged 19 goal contributions in 27 Bundesliga games – eight goals and 11 assists.
If Bayern cannot come to an agreement over a new contract with Leroy Sane, they may even look to offload him in January – either he signs a new deal before summer or he leaves for free.
After purchasing him for €49million in 2020, the latter outcome would be a disastrous piece of business from Bayern.
