Manchester United’s start to the 2024/25 season has been a rocky one.
Before heading off on the international break two weeks ago, United sat in 14th place in the league table, having lost to Spurs, Liverpool and Brighton, whilst drawing to Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
However, their recent win over Brentford has brought them back up to eleventh, sitting only six points behind fourth place.
It’s understood that United need to secure Champions League football next season to avoid a penalty built into their contract with sponsors Adidas, totalling £10 million.

However, in recent talks, Erik ten Hag has revealed his target for the season.
Erik ten Hag’s 2024/25 season target
Manchester Evening News has reported that Erik ten Hag has set out a target of winning a third trophy this season.
This comes as the Dutchman won the Carabao Cup in his first year at Old Trafford, then winning the FA Cup last year which ultimately saved his job after a poor Premier League campaign.
Speaking on Sunday night, Ten Hag said: “Thanks to the Football Writers’ Association for the invitation, I really love to be here and together to meet all the managers, who also get rewards for their big achievements and then with the togetherness of all the media, it will be a nice evening.”
He continued: “You have to live for now in football, so it’s [trophies] all in the past, but you have to prove every day, prove yourself every season, so we have to go for it.
“We are just at the start of the season, but of course, that is a target, to win a trophy again. The spirit has always been high, but of course, it helps, the mood will be better if we win.
“Everyone has high expectations of our team so we have to win every game and go for it. We have to be determined and when we win, we enjoy it for 24 hours and then we move on.”
In their cup runs, United will face Fenerbahce on 24th October in Turkey in their bid to climb up the Europa League table from 21st, whilst they face Leicester in Round Four of the Carabao Cup on 30th October.
