Manchester United are still without attacking reinforcements as The Red Devils failed to recruit a new striker in the winter transfer window.

Despite an interest in Mathys Tel towards the end of the window, United refused to match Bayern’s demands, seeing Tel go to Tottenham Hotspur instead on loan for the rest of the season.

Unfortunately this means that Ruben Amorim is still reliant on Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund up top, with the pair of strikers failing to provide consistent goal contributions up top.

The duo have only scored a combined 11 of the 72 goals scored this season, with only three assists between the pair.

As such, Amorim demanded that a new striker be signed in the winter window, however, United failed to meet his demands, refusing to overpay on unproven talent.

Now, United face the rest of the season with Amorim desperate to harness Zirkzee and Hojlund’s potential and turn them into clinical finishers as he did with Viktor Gyokeres.

However, this isn’t stopping United’s recruitment team from looking at targets for the summer window.

Now, The Red Devils are looking to another Premier League striker in the hope of having him boost the attack at Old Trafford.

TBR Football has now reported that United are looking to Crystal Palace in their bid to find a proven striker in the Premier League to replace their current underwhelming duo.

As such, United are looking to Jean-Philippe Mateta who’s scored 13 goals in 28 games, more than the United duo combined, and with two assists is only one off of Amorim’s current options.

Amorim had a front row seat for Mateta’s abilities, with the French striker scoring a brace in Crystal Palace’s 2-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend.

United are the fifth lowest scorers in the Premier League this season, only scoring more than Everton and the relegation zone trio.

This low rate of goals is the key factor which has seen Mateta find his way onto United’s shortlist, however they face opposition from other Premier League squads.

Mateta’s recent performances has raised interested from Chelsea, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, West Ham, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Marseille.

Whilst Crystal Palace managed to secure the French striker from Mainz in 2022 for £9 million, Transfermarkt currently has his valuation at around £17 million, seeing a great profit for The Eagles if they decide to sell in the summer.
