Manchester United are looking to reward one of their standout young stars with a new contract after his impressive run for the club.
Erik ten Hag has never shied away from giving youngsters a chance in the squad, with Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho having a breakthrough last season, Amad Diallo stepping up this season, and Toby Collyer, Ethan Wheatley and Harry Amass waiting in the wings to step up.

However, now one of their young stars is on the verge of getting an upgrade to their current contract.
Manchester United reward Kobbie Mainoo
It’s understood that Kobbie Mainoo is the man at the heart of contract renegotiations.
Manchester Evening News has now reported that as part of United’s long-term plan, the club are close to agreeing on a new contract with the centre-midfielder.
The plans to do so have been on the cards for some time now, with Mainoo holding an important position in the first-team squad.
As such it’s understood that the 19-year-old is due to have a wage increase, although it’s not yet known what to.
With Mainoo’s current contract set to expire in 2027, there’s been no rush to force renegotiations, putting even more weight on how highly the club regard the England international, to put pen to paper with three years left on the contract.
The player’s camp hasn’t rushed a new deal because the performance-related bonuses in Mainoo’s current contract have been triggered.
Speaking about the opportunity he’s had under Erik ten Hag, Mainoo said: “I am grateful that he has given me an opportunity to play for this club,”
He continued: “Also, what I appreciate is that he pushes you every day. He keeps pushing you and wants more and more and more from his players. I think that really helps you to develop quicker.”
