Ethan Wheatley has left Manchester United to join League Two leaders Walsall on loan until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old forward made his debut as a substitute in a 3-0 defeat to Bradford City just hours after his move was confirmed.
Wheatley, who had interest from Wrexham, Stockport County, and Dutch side SC Cambuur, prioritised game time in his decision.
The youngster highlighted Walsall’s winning environment as a key factor in choosing the Saddlers over other suitors.

“It is my first loan, so I am very excited to get going,” Wheatley said in his first interview with Walsall’s official website.
“The club is currently top of the league, so I am coming into a winning environment, and I am looking forward to that.
“Hopefully, we can kick on for the rest of the season, and I can help the team to do good things.”
Wheatley also emphasised his desire to gain regular playing time during this pivotal phase of his career.
“I had interest from other places, but they didn’t have as many games left in the season.
“A big thing for me is earning game time and trying to play as much as possible in the men’s game.”
“I hope I can do that, stamp my mark, and impress,” the young forward added.
Wheatley made history for United last season, becoming their 250th academy graduate to appear in a senior match.
The milestone came during a substitute appearance in a 4-2 win over Sheffield United at Old Trafford on April 24.
Having also contributed to United’s U18 Premier League Cup triumph in 2024, Wheatley is now set to build on his potential at Walsall.
United fans will be hoping Wheatley will come back from his loan in good stead of his long-term development at United.
