The Red Devils are about to be engrossed in a serious battle to secure 5th place in the league, which just may be enough for the Champions League. As such they cannot afford to deal with injuries as has been the trend of the season or suspensions for that matter.
On that note, captain Bruno Fernandes is perilously close to earning himself a two match ban over yellow cards accumulation.
The Portuguese midfielder currently has eight yellow cards. If he gets another two yellow cards, he will face a two match ban.
A player is automatically suspended for two games if they receive ten yellow cards in the first thirty-two Premier League games for their club.
The Portuguese magnifico is never shy of giving referees a piece of his mind and unlike other captains, he is booked for dissent one too many times.
He has been victim of suspension before missing the Liverpool clash at Anfield last December after accumulating five yellow cards.
He may now be forced to miss league games against Sheffield United and Bournemouth if he is given a yellow card against Chelsea on Thursday and Liverpool on Sunday.
Every match between now and May will be like a final, and United have to be at their very best if they are to improbably nick a Champions League spot.
The games this week against Chelsea and Liverpool, even more so – which puts ten Hag between a rock and a hard place.
Bruno who is the team’s main, sometimes only source of creativity needs to be firing on all cylinders running the risk of him getting booked. Two more yellow cards, and he will be out for two games, which virtually jeopardizes all the Champions League qualification hopes.
