Ruben Amorim will grasp at any positive he can find, during what has so far been a miserable spell at Manchester United.

The upcoming January transfer window provides an opportunity to make amends.

With United’s financial situation uncertain, major signings are unlikely to happen.

That is, unless a key player is sold.

That makes the need for smart recruitment, even more important.

The Red Devils may need to focus on free transfers, potential swap deals and bargains in order to get instill stability.

A former Chelsea player has come of interest to United and would very much provide instant improvement.

That player is Andreas Christensen, a centre-back who was a huge part of Chelsea’s Champions League winning campaign in 2021.

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, United are keeping tabs on the defenders’ situation at Barcelona.

United and Juventus are amongst clubs “seriously interested” in the centre-back.

It is believed that should a deal be done with either club, it will be done on a loan basis.

Christensen has recently returned to training after a bout of tendinopathy in his left achilles tendon.

That has been a recurring injury for the Danish international.

The 28-year-old is in his prime years however.

It therefore comes as very little surprise that European giants are interested in Christensen, despite his injury record.

Christensen would very much be able to add cover for Ruben Amorim in the short and long-term.

Moreso considering his best spell of form at Chelsea came under Thomas Tuchel in a 3-4-3.

With more protection and less spaces to cover, provides more freedom for Christensen to display his qualities on the ball.

Whether the Barcelona man chooses to join United remains the interesting question, considering his affiliations with Chelsea.

Christensen left Barcelona in 2022 on a free and excelled under Xavi at Barcelona where he played a key part in winning the La Liga.

It would be a signing that would very much suit both parties.
