Although the transfer window is officially open, a lot of transfer negotiations and contract renewals are yet to begin with the sheer extent of international duties this summer.
In Germany we’re seeing Europe’s best battle it out in the Euros 2024, with the final 16 about to enter the knock-out round.
The next round kicks off on Saturday 29th June with Switzerland taking on Italy, and hosts Germany taking on Denmark.
In the United States, the Copa America has kicked off with the best of the Americas working through their second matches in the group stages.
And that won’t be it for the summer, as when both tournaments end on 14th July, well then see the Olympic Games come to life in Paris, France.
It’s understandable that a lot of players out on international duty are holding off engaging in contract talks, wanting to concentrate on their respective tournaments.
Reports from Relevo suggest that one of United’s new targets is in the same boat.
Girona’s Miguel Gutiérrez, after making it onto Spain’s Euro 2024 pre list, is now being called up to the Spanish Olympic football team.
The 22-year-old has had a fantastic season for Girona, with the left-back being a vital part of their La Liga campaign which saw the club achieve their highest ever finish, coming third, securing Champions League football for the first time ever.
Gutierrez made a total of 35 appearances in the league, even grabbing two goals, both against Barcelona each time they faced the Catalan side in La Liga, and backed this up with seven assists across the league.
It’s now being reported that United are joining a whole host of top teams vying for the young star’s signature, including teams like Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund.
The report continues that the Spanish defender is waiting to see what his former team, Real Madrid, plan around his future. Whilst Girona are hoping to retain the player, Madrid are still considering his future at the Spanish capital.
Whilst Madrid sold Gutierrez to Girona for €4 million, the Spanish champions retained 50% of his rights for a fee of €5 million and included a buy back clause of €8 million.
Currently the left-back has a release clause of €35 million which could be activated by United if the decide to advance their efforts to sign the Spanish rising star.
