Ruben Amorim is starting to assemble his squad at Manchester United, however, the club are very firm that he should be focusing on existing talent over signing new stars.
United are only authorising a limited budget going forward, prioritising current squad and academy development.
The United executives believe that the club have enough talent to compete with the top clubs, however, the full potential of some players hasn’t been realised yet.
As such, Amorim is looking at how he can fit players into his playstyle to get the best from them.
Already he’s excited to be using Leny Yoro and Amad Diallo, however, how Diallo will fit in remains to be seen. His two options are as a dynamic right-wing-back, or slotting inside as a more central front three.

This doesn’t mean that United won’t be dipping into the transfer market, however. It does mean though that targeting free agents and lining up pre-contract agreements in January are much more likely.
One such target is former Red Devil Angel Gomes.
Arsenal and United both look to Angel Gomes
The versatile midfielder has had an incredible run at LOSC Lille, with his contract set to end in the summer.
With nine goals and 19 assists in 129 games, Gomes has established himself as a key member of the Lille squad.
However, The Sun has now revealed that United have competition from Arsenal to sign the star.
United are looking to Gomes as a long-term replacement for Casemiro, with Gomes becoming a much more adaptable midfielder than when he left United in 2020.
His versatility and intensity on the pitch make the England international a perfect fit for Amorim’s system.
However, Arsenal legend Lee Dixon also feels he would be an ideal candidate for Mikel Arteta’s plans.
Speaking to plejmo.com, Dixon explained: “He’s a very good link-up player and we’ve seen that he can play alongside Declan Rice.”
He continued: “He’s got a lot of potential and although there will be plenty of clubs looking at him, I could see him at Arsenal next season.”
With several top clubs monitoring Gomes ahead of the January window, United could have a fight on their hands to re-sign the midfielder.
