Under the new regime at Old Trafford, the recruitment team and directors have been seemingly implementing a new policy by which all of their young stars being sold to other clubs are including sell-on clauses.

The likes of Facundo Pellistri, Maxi Oyedele and Hannibal Mejbri have all had considerable sell-on clauses included in their deals to move from United.

This tactic allows for United to offload the youngsters who aren’t fitting into the first-team plans, whilst also being able to benefit on their long term development.

With Hannibal it’s recently been reported that Untied have gone beyond just a 50% sell-on clause, but have also negotiated a buy back agreement and matching rights.

However, this isn’t the first time United have done this, although it seems to have been much more sporadic previously.

Now though, The Red Devils are set to cash in on one of their previous deals, with a former United defender moving clubs.

Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that negotiations are taking place between Torino and Luton Town for Teden Mengi to move to Italy.

It’s understood that personal terms have been agreed with the transfer fee to be negotiated. As a result, United are expected to cash in on the move with an unspecified, but high percentage sell-on clause.

Mengi is a graduate of the United academy and went out on loans to Derby and Birmingham before leaving for Luton last summer.

The centre-back only made two appearances for United, with only 19 games played across both loan spells combined. However at Luton, Mengi has seemed to find himself. He’s made himself an essential part of their defence.

United are expected to cash in on the move with an unspecified, but high percentage sell-on clause.
