The Manchester United summer transfer window stories are hotting up – but not in the way that many would have expected.
Firstly, there was the news that highly promising youngster Silva Mexes had joined the club. Then we learned that United’s had officially signed James Overy.
Now it seems that more names are being eyed to come through the door. And it’s someone who may be familiar to those who followed the United youth teams.
Botan Ameen first became a name that United fans would have heard of when he helped Swindon Town knock United out of the fourth round of this year’s FA Youth Cup. He then helped his side knock Sunderland out of the fifth round, before eventually losing to Bristol City in the quarter finals.
Now it seems that United are taking a closer look at the player.
The Daily Mail report that Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers have sent scouts to watch Ameen. The 17-year-old is already an Iraq youth international and is set to represent his country’s Under-20 side in their Asia Cup qualifiers this month.
Ameen scored both goals against United in last year’s FA Youth Cup and it seems that many clubs are interested in the player’s progress.
The striker was previously on the books of Queens Park Rangers before he was released and picked up by Swindon Town, where he has been catching the eye.
United have been bolstering their youth team numbers with recent signings. It remains to be seen where Ameen will be joining that cohort or if United were just running the rule on him only at this point.
