Manchester United are reportedly renewing their interest in one of their key midfield targets from the summer.

Whilst Manuel Ugarte was the only midfield signing this summer, United were also looking at other potential signings.

Midfielders like Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona, Sporting’s Morten Hjulmand and free agent Adrien Rabiot.

However, another central-midfielder being tracked was Atalanta’s Ederson.

The Brazilian midfielder was the centre of interest from several European clubs including Newcastle United and Juventus.

However, SkySports have reported that United are once more looking to the Brazilian as a potential recruitment to bolster the middle of the pitch.

So far this season, Ederson’s made 17 appearances with a goal and an assists, helping towards the Serie A side’s campaigns.

Atalanta sit in second in Serie A , only a point behind Napoli, and ninth in the Champions League.

It’s reported that a move for Ederson could come as soon as January with the club looking for replacements to both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

The only concern for the move is that United will have a limited transfer budget for future transfer windows.

With Ederson’s contract running through until 2027, Atalanta have no pressure to sell their midfield star. This puts the Italian side in a strong seat of negotiation to drive up the price for their midfielder.

With United looking to prioritise the harnessing of their existing potential, as well as looking to free transfers like Angel Gomes, a move for Ederson may come a little further down the line.

However, it’s clear that United and their recruitment team see a lot of value in the Brazilian midfielder, so time will tell.
