Manchester United are looking to the January transfer window to try and lure one of their long-term defensive targets to Old Trafford.
United have just been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Tottenham in a 4-3 loss, with some glaring mistakes made in defence.
Errors from secondary goalkeeper Altay Bayindir led to the opening and closing goals from Dominic Solanke and Son Heung-Min, whilst Lisandro Martinez gifted a goal to Dejan Kulusevski.
With Ruben Amorim looking to rebuild his defence, Martinez’s recent inconsistencies could potentially cost him a place in the back three.
Harry Maguire is currently the centre of contract negotiations to extend his stay at Old Trafford, with Amorim seeing him as a key component of his defensive line.
Alongside Maguire, Amorim has been vocal about his excitement to work with Leny Yoro, whilst Matthijs de Ligt is also proving to be a strong asset at the back.
However, United are now looking to bring in another option for Amorim to consider in his back three.

Manchester United look to Jarrad Branthwaite once more
GiveMeSport has reported that United are once again turning to Everton‘s Jarrad Branthwaite after pursuing the centre-back throughout the summer.
The Red Devils saw multiple offers rejected by Everton who were refusing to accept anything less than £80 million for their star defender.
United aren’t alone in their pursuit, however, with Liverpool and Manchester City also considering moves for the 22-year-old.
However, with Everton holding firm on the valuation of Branthwaite, it’s unlikely that any of the trio will be able to afford the star this winter.
Branthwaite is one of the only things keeping Everton from the relegation zone as the Merseyside club fight to remain in the Premier League.
With Everton having recently undergone a takeover by The Friedkin Group, the club will be doing everything they can to retain Branthwaite to remain in the Premier League.
