It looks as though United have received a huge boost in their pursuit of centre-back Leny Yoro.
The Red Devils are after Yoro as a key target in rebuilding the defence at Old Trafford after a poor season finishing eighth overall in the Premier League and crashing out of the Champions League group stages.
Admittedly, injuries played a huge part of these performance issues with no set left-back available for selection thanks to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s injures. Erik ten Hag was having to rely on right-backs Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to cover the left side and even needed midfielder Casemiro to cover areas of central-defence.
To avoid these issues next year, strengthen the squad and provide more depth, United have turned to Matthijs De Ligt from Bayern Munich, Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton alongside Yoro.
Over the recent week, United have submitted a €50 million bid for the 18-year-old which has been accepted by LOSC Lille as a more supreme offer than the one they received from Real Madrid.
With the offer now agreed by the French club, all attention turns to the centre-back and agreeing personal terms to arrange a move to Old Trafford. Whilst it’s been known that Madrid is Yoro’s desired club, the defender recently took to X to shut down some fake accounts made in his name telling United to leave him alone.
Now, it’s believed that their may be a glimmer of hope with coming to an agreement with the 18-year-old. Previously Madrid were still extremely confident of signing their defensive target, however reports from Spain suggest that confidence is now slipping.
Spanish publication AS have revealed that the La Liga champions have begun developing a shortlist of players to look to if they don’t succeed in their pursuit of Yoro, meaning they must have some doubts of the deal going through.
Interestingly, Madrid are now looking at one of their former players, Mario Gila as a potential alternative to Yoro, with the 23-year-old currently shining at Lazio after a €6 million move in 2022. If Madrid were to got for Gila, this would benefit them financially as they retain a 50% sell-on clause as part of the 2022 sale, meaning that half of the offer they make to Lazio will be coming back to them anyway.
