Manchester United receive major boost in Matheus Cunha transfer

Manchester United have received a boost in confidence around the potential signing of Wolverhampton Wolves’ Matheus Cunha.

The striker has already hinted that he would be ready to leave Vitor Pereira’s Wolves in the summer, instead of in the middle of the season, but his most recent update on his future plans has given United a big boost.

This comes after Wolves declared Cunha’s release clause of £60M, effective from June.

Cunha has been a standout player in Pereira’s squad since joining the Wolves on loan in January 2023, and with 15 goals in 29 appearances this season he remains their top scorer.

The 25 year-old’s ability to flourish within an underperforming club could make him the answer to United boss Ruben Amorim’s Premier League prayers.

Since losing Amad Diallo to injury in February, The Red Devils are in dire need of attacking reinforcements before next season if they are to improve on this season’s lacklustre performance.

However, Cunha recently spoke out about his loyalty to his current club and his plans for next season, which came as encouraging news for United.

According to Manchester Evening News, Cunha said his loyalty remains with the Wolves, which explains his apathy to moving clubs mid-season, but that he wants to “fight for titles, for big things”.

The Brazilian also referred to his “potential” for future self-improvement, inferring that he can do better than Pereira’s Wolves, who currently sit at 17th in the Premier League table.

Amorim has had his eye on Cunha for some time now, as have other big European clubs, such as Arsenal.

And, with the Summer transfer window looming, hearing Cunha’s ambition for the future will be an encouraging boost for the Portuguese manager and his club.
