Manchester United do not have a fit left back in their squad other than Harry Amass.
The 17-year-old academy star is still yet to debut, as Erik ten Hag has opted to play Diogo Dalot and Jonny Evans out of position to fill United’s left back void.
Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw have both struggled with long-term injuries and have each not appeared for the club for months.
Malacia’s last game was 17 months ago on May 28 2023, while Shaw last featured for the Red Devils on February 18 2024.

With these issues, United have identified Girona left back Miguel Gutierrez as their top target in the position.
According to Football Transfers, the 23-year-old is on Dan Ashworth and United’s radar.
Real Madrid look more likely to sign Bayern Munich left back Alphonso Davies on a free transfer next summer.
Davies is also one of United’s targets, but the board are prepared to approach Gutierrez if they miss out.
Madrid have a buy-back clause on the Girona man, allowing them to sign him for €8-9million between 2024 and 2025.
However, with their interest in Davies, it is less likely that they will decide to exercise this option, leaving the door open for United to secure Gutierrez’s signature.

The Spanish giants also have a 50% sell-on clause, meaning they would receive half of the profits from Girona if United were to sign him.
Miguel Gutierrez has a €35m release clause in his contract, which expires in 2027 – €10m more than his estimated value, according to Transfermarkt.
With United looking to potentially offload Harry Maguire and Antony in January, they will certainly have the budget to fund a move for Gutierrez.
