Lisandro Martinez was noticeably absent from Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge of Manchester United.
Despite being a massive influence on United’s performances, already forging a strong partnership with Matthijs de Ligt, Martinez is set for a stint on the sidelines.
It was expected that the centre-back would be missing out after he was ruled out of international duties due to back pain suffered in United’s last match-up with Leicester.
Martinez reported for duty in Argentina two weeks ago, however after being ruled out of selection due to his injury, Martinez opted to fly back to Manchester.
The centre-back decided to return to Carrington earlier than expected to meet his new manager sooner, but also to begin the assessments of his situation and start on his recovery.

Manchester United’s outlook with Lisandro Martinez injured
Now, it’s been confirmed by @UtdMenace on X that Lisandro Martinez is due to be out for 2 to 3 weeks, however, his spinal injury is not overly serious.
With United facing Everton, Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City over the next three weeks, as well as Europa League games with Bodo/Glimt and Viktoria Plzen, the Argentinian international is set to miss some really key games.
United are currently in 12th in the Premier League and desperately need a top four finish to qualify for the Champions League next season. Failing to do so would see them trigger a penalty clause with sponsors Adidas, causing a £10 million fine.
Needless to say, with the extent of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s cost cutting schemes, this is a fate the club wish to avoid.
As such, Amorim will be glad to see his star centre-back return from the side-lines and integrate him into his new system.
