Barcelona are currently undertaking a big push to renew the contracts of some of their core players.
New coach Hansi Flick is settling into life at Camp Nou with the club sat at the top of LaLiga table with a game in hand, set to play Seville tonight.
In just nine games, Barca have a goal difference of +19 after some dramatic victories already, including a 7-0 win over Valladolid, 4-1 over Girona and 5-1 over Villarreal.
As a result of the impressive performances, the club are looking at rewarding Pedri and Gavi with long-term contracts to secure their future with the Spanish side.
With the pair’s contracts ending in 2026, Flick is keen to agree on an extension, with one other player also in the mix for contract renewals.
Manchester United look to Barcelona star Ronald Araujo
The other star in question is Ronald Araujo.
The defender is also contracted to Barca until 2026, with discussions taking place at this time to extend his contract beyond the next two years.
However, CaughtOffside have reported that if a deal can’t be agreed, both Manchester United and Chelsea are waiting in the wings to launch an offence for the centre-back.
If a new deal cannot be agreed by July, next summer’s transfer window would mark the last chance Barcelona have to sell the star before risking losing him to a free transfer. The report explains that if a deal isn’t agreed, then the Premier League sides would both be hoping for a reduced transfer fee in the summer.
This isn’t the first time United have been linked to Araujo, with The Red Devils looking to him during the recent transfer window.
The interest came from United wanting to strengthen their defence which ultimately ended with the signing of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
