This summer, Manchester United made a massive effort to overhaul their defensive lineup. This move has been heavily led by the new senior directors put in place by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that United was looking to sign players to all areas of defence, looking for centre-backs, as well as right and left-backs.
Whilst Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt were recruited to the centre-back positions, with Noussair Mazraoui coming in as a replacement to Aaron Wan-Bissaka in right-back, the left side of defence remained untouched.
However, Erik ten Hag is still facing issues, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia having missed the start of the Premier League season and Carabao Cup campaign so far due to their ongoing injuries.

Over the summer United looked at a range of potential left-backs to support with ten Hag’s continued injury woes, although nothing materialised.
Now, The Red Devils are eyeing up a new target, with rivals Liverpool looking to battle United for his signature.
Manchester United and Liverpool move for Antonee Robinson
The Premier League giants are both looking to Fulham’s Antonee Robinson who was one of Fulham’s standout talents from last season.
Throughout the 2023/24 season, Robinson had the most interceptions per game (2.2) for anyone in the Fulham squad, yet was second in line for assists (6) and tackles per game (2.5), giving him the third-highest average match rating in the team (6.92), earning him Fulham’s Player of the Season.
Whilst United are looking to the USA international to cover Luke Shaw’s long-term absence, Liverpool is turning to the Everton youth academy graduate as a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson.
Now, The Sun has reported that the pair are looking to make a move for Robinson as early as January, however, United may have the edge by being able to offer the 27-year-old immediate first-team football.
