Manchester United players slammed by Danish media

Denmark’s 5-2 loss to Portugal in the Nations League quarter-final has drawn heavy criticism from the Danish media, especially for the performances of their Manchester United players.

Christian Eriksen, Rasmus Hojlund, and Patrick Dorgu were all part of the disappointing display, with local outlets giving harsh reviews of their performances.

Denmark had hoped to build on their 1-0 lead from the first leg, but a series of mistakes left them exposed and ultimately out of the tournament.

Christian Eriksen, who had been expected to be a key playmaker, came under fire for his inability to dictate the game, especially during the first half.

Ekstra Bladet rated him a modest 4/6, acknowledging his goal and assist but criticizing his lack of presence in crucial moments.

The review noted, “We’ve seen it before – Eriksen disappears in difficult away games. He did show up in the second half but should have taken charge earlier.”

Rasmus Hojlund, Denmark’s striker and hero from the first leg, also received poor ratings from the Danish press.

Despite getting Denmark’s first shot on target, he struggled throughout the match and failed to make an impact when it mattered most.

Ekstra Bladet gave him just a 3/6, stating, “Hojlund kept the Portuguese defense busy but never really found his rhythm.

“Goals are what strikers are judged on, and he didn’t deliver.”

Patrick Dorgu, who started in the defense, earned the harshest review with a rating of 2/6.

He was heavily criticized for his poor defensive performance, including conceding a penalty early in the match.

Tipsbladet’s review described Dorgu as having “a poor start,” and stated that his defensive shortcomings were evident throughout the match.

The publication went as far as to say, ‘It wasn’t good.

“He moved further up the pitch in the second half and immediately made an assist, but it did not redeem the poor defensive display.”

Despite the criticism, the Denmark players did contribute to the match in their own ways, but it was clear that their performances were not enough to prevent a crushing defeat.

Their underwhelming performances in a crucial match might raise concerns ahead of United’s upcoming fixtures.
