Manchester United owners, The Glazer family, have recently pulled out of their recent plans of buying a new sports club.
Back in July 2024, it was report that The Glazers were one of several interested parties who were looking at buying stakes in cricket teams who are a part of The Hundred franchise.
The United owners were joined by the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Tom Brady and several other high-profile investors looking to capitalise on the opportunity.
However, The Daily Mail has now reported that the United majority owners have now abandoned these plans.
The American owners were reportedly looking at bidding for Manchester-based side Manchester Originals, however the risk of fan backlash made the family abandon the bid.
Already the Florida-based investors are disliked in Manchester, with United fans regularly protesting against their ownership of the club.
Despite their purchase of United being over two decades ago, The Glazers’ leveraged buyout of The Red Devils is still met with chants against them at United games, with the investors rarely seen at matches.
As such, they’ve turned their attention to London Spirit, not wanting to pull out of The Hundred altogether.
Unfortunately for the Americans, they have missed out on the ownership, with a Silicon Valley coalition landing the 49% stake in London Spirit for a value of £145 million.
RPSG, owned by billionaire businessman Sanjiv Goenka, were the victorious bid for 49% of the Manchester Originals, with ground owners Lancashire grabbing a further 21% for £75 million, making the Manchester-based club the highest-valued franchise outside of London.
