Manchester United are looking like they’re regaining their form after a 3-0 win over Southampton in the Premier League and a 7-0 thumping of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
Their win over the Saints has brought them up to tenth in the league, with their domination of Barnsley taking them through to the next round in the cup.
Next week will see the Red Devils take on FC Twente on their opening fixture of the Europa League at Old Trafford.
However, now United are set to compete in a brand new competition.
United are one of the Premier League 2 sides set to take part in a new tournament called the National League Cup.
The reserve squad has already gained experience against senior opposition in the EFL Trophy, but are now giving themselves more opportunities to test themselves against National League clubs.
The competition is due to get underway next month, with the fixtures being played at the National League grounds, with those clubs keeping all ticket sales, supporting the lower level clubs.
The 32 teams are split between Premier League 2 sides and National League teams, set to be competing mid week.
The layout will see the teams split into four groups of eight, leading to the top two clubs progressing into the knockout stages, which begin with the quarter-finals on 5/6 February 2025.
United have been drawn in Group B with local sides; Altrincham, Forest Green Rovers, Oldham Athletic and Rochdale.
