Storm Darragh has been wreaking havoc across the United Kingdom.
Gusts of up to 100 miles have been recorded as wind and rain have caused disruptions across the land.
With such adverse weather conditions, many have been wondering what will happen to sport.
Although storms generally don’t impact football matches themselves, it can impact supporters on their travels.
Many have been advised by the authorities to stay indoors and not travel while the weather is this bad.
Fans were wondering whether this would lead to postponements of English Premier League games.
One game has already fallen victim to the weather.
The Merseyside derby has been officially postponed.
Liverpool vs Everton was meant to be the early kick-off game on Saturday.
But the city of Liverpool has borne quite the brunt of Storm Darragh and it’s now been decided that the risk was too high to play that match.
It will now be played at a later date.
With Manchester being not too far from Liverpool, many fans wondered if United’s game would also fall foul of the weather.
Manchester United host Nottingham Forest in the evening kick-off game and fans had already started planning their travels.
The club has now released an official statement on the status of the game.
Writing on their X / Twitter account, the club have confirmed that the game is still set to go ahead.
“Today’s Premier League fixture at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest is scheduled to go ahead as planned.
“The club will continue to consult the relevant authorities throughout the day and will update supporters immediately if anything changes.
“We understand that fan travel will be disrupted by the weather so this fixture will not be included in the minimum number of games a season that season tickets must be used.”
So it seems that, for now at least, the match is going to take place.
With anything related to national storms, this isn’t 100% certain.
Positions can change with a dynamic situation like the current storms and so an updated statement may come later today.
But for now, it seems that United fans will be able to support their team this evening and distract themselves from the terrible weather right now.
If the situation of the game doesn’t game, then Manchester United may get to see Ruben Amorim’s best XI on the pitch today.
