It was earlier today reported that Borussia Dortmund legend Marco Reus would not be renewing his contract which means he will be leaving Signal Iduna after 12 years of exemplary service to the Black and Yellow.
As TEAMtalk report, this presents a chance for Man United to sign the ageing, yet still incredibly gifted Reus who The Glazers reportedly greatly admire.
The Red Devils were first linked with the 34-year-old in the 2013/14 season, at a time when he was only budding and coming up as one of the best wingers in European football.
Since then, he has matured in to one of the most versatile and naturally gifted German players ever capable of playing in any of the 4 attacking positions, all the injury issues notwithstanding.
Even at 34, he can still comfortably dictate a game although he has slowed down with age now relying in his off-the-charts football IQ and passing ability.
A report from The Express explicitly states that United co-owners The Glazers were incredibly keen on signing Reus back when the club was linked with the German maestro in 2013.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has since taken over the footballing operations which may render the Glazer’s admiration of Reus moot but the report claims United would still jump at the chance to sign him.
As The Express reports, signing Reus would be the ‘perfect way’ to kick off the Ratcliffe era albeit it doesn’t fit into Ratcliffe’s agenda for the club.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made it clear that his vision for the club is bringing in young, British players who show promise of being World stars in the making with the right management which goes against signing an ageing 34-year-old.
He is clearly very keen on avoiding the mistake of signing ageing players who drastically deteriorate after one season – a mistake Man United hierarchy have made time and time again in the past
