According to reports in Turkey, Galatasaray has engaged in discussions with Manchester United regarding the possibility of acquiring Christian Eriksen on a temporary basis, with options for a permanent transfer later on, the midfielder could leave this week as the Turkish transfer window is still open until later this week.

Eriksen, who is 31 years old, became a part of Manchester United in 2022 after his contract with Brentford ended, and has since appeared in over 50 games under the guidance of Erik ten Hag.

Despite a strong start, Eriksen has only been in the starting lineup for three Premier League games since mid-November. This decrease in playing time can be attributed to a mix of injuries and the rise of Kobbie Mainoo, a young midfield talent. With the English transfer window now closed and no new additions to United’s roster, Eriksen emerges as a potential departure as Turkish teams remain in the market until February 9.

Reports from Fotomac reveal that discussions between Galatasaray, Manchester United, and Eriksen have been underway, considering a loan move that could potentially become permanent by summer. Should an agreement not be reached before the closure of the Turkish transfer window this week, it’s understood that plans for a summer transition could be promised.

Eriksen’s contract with United, which extends until the summer of 2025, was a topic of discussion last October when he expressed dissatisfaction with his role in the team after being less favored by Ten Hag. Meanwhile, Mainoo, only 18, has been impressing with his performances, securing a starting position alongside Casemiro in a recent 3-0 victory over West Ham. This has seen Eriksen fall behind in the selection order, with Scott McTominay also moving ahead of him in the team’s midfield hierarchy.
