Manchester United are advancing their interest in one of Sporting Lisbon’s top stars ahead of the January transfer window.
Despite Ruben Amorim swearing against a raid in January, United have contacted the agent of one of Sporting’s most exciting stars.
In his final address for Sporting, Amorim commented: “I will not sign any Sporting player at Man United in January… then, what happens in the summer I don’t know”.
Whilst this was a strong statement against any winter signings, it kept the door open for a summertime move for some of his favoured talents.
Viktor Gyokeres, Ousmane Diomande, Geovany Quenda, and Francisco Trincao are among the key players in the Portuguese capital linked with a Manchester move.
Gyokeres has made it known that he hopes to move to United to continue playing under Amorim. However, the remaining three have yet to comment on their future.

Manchester United reach out to Geovany Quenda
Manchester Evening News has reported that The Red Devils have contacted Jorge Mendes who acts as the agent for Geovany Quenda
The 17-year-old winger has been high up on United’s priority list since they appointed Amorim last month.
Whilst no formal offer has been made for Quenda, it is expected by the Portuguese club next year.
Mendes and United have a longstanding relationship, working in The Red Devils’ favour. Mendes was the agent behind both of Cristiano Ronaldo’s moves to Old Trafford. He also represented David de Gea and instigated the transfer for Bruno Fernandes.
However, United aren’t the only interested party. PSG, Manchester City, RB Leipzig and Liverpool are also all monitoring the talented winger.
Quenda looks set to leave Sporting next year, despite his contract running until 2027. Mendes is holding more meetings with other clubs to understand which of the many options his best for Quenda.
United are hoping that their relationship with Mendes through many successful deals will be enough to secure Amorim’s key target.
