Manchester United are reportedly looking to seal a deal for the Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite by the end of June, The People’s Person reports.
The 21-year-old shone against rivals Liverpool on Wednesday, as he scored the opening goal and kept a valuable clean sheet that saw Everton win 2-0.
Everton are reportedly asking for £100m to let Branthwaite leave. However, due to the Toffees’ ongoing financial issues, United may be able to agree a cut-price deal for the Englishman before the end of this year’s accounting year on June 30.
According to Football Insider, Man United are confident a bid of £60-70m will be enough to prize Branthwaite away from Merseyside.
He has burst onto the scene this season after a loan spell at PSV Eindhoven in the 2022/23 campaign. Standing at a towering 6’5”, he is a strong physical presence in duels and on set-pieces. His pace and quality on the ball make him as close to the complete centre-back as it gets.
With a series of centre-back injuries this season, United will undoubtedly be desperate to strengthen in that area in the summer. Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane’s contracts expiring this summer will only add to the desire to secure Branthwaite’s signature.
