What’s better than signing a new player?
Beating one of your rivals to their signing.
A shock transfer link has emerged that suggests Manchester United are looking to hijack a Liverpool transfer.
Transfer hijacks are not unique between these two clubs.
United were interested in signing Darwin Nunez from Benfica in the 2022, but Liverpool entered the race and snapped the player up.
Something similar happened last season too.
Cody Gakpo was heavily linked with a move to Manchester, but then Liverpool stole a march and plucked him from under the nose of Erik ten Hag.

This time, though, it seems like the hijack may be happening the other way.
One of the stars of UEFA Euro 2024 has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield.
Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is believed to have agreed personal terms to the move.
The plan is believed to be that Mamardashvili will join Bournemouth on loan for a season or two before moving to Anfield permanently.
But now it’s emerged that United may be in the picture for the Georgia star.
The Mirror report Manchester United are long-term admirers of the player and that a departure for Jadon Sancho would give them the funds to bring in the player.
Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.
With Manchester United having brought in Andre Onana, it seems highly unlikely that they’d go for Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The more likely scenario is that the Valencia man will be moving to Merseyside over Manchester.
It does say something in regards to the transfer strategy of the previous regime.
Onana cost United around £44m just a year after joining Inter Milan on a free transfer.
Whereas Liverpool are expecting to pay around €35m for a player who just shone in UEFA Euro 2024.
Fortunately for United fans, it seems that the new regime is far more likely to get deals done at the right price in the future.
