Manchester United finally have their transfer team in place, with Dan Ashworth having the green light to start at Old Trafford, Jason Wilcox as technical director, Omar Berrada incoming in the next two weeks and Christopher Vivell seeming close to join the club to support through this transfer window.
With Sir Jim Ratcliffe having his senior managers assembled and retaining Erik ten Hag in the managerial role of the squad, the club are looking forward to their transfer business this summer.
Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano reported a month ago that one of the key areas United are looking to recruit to this summer is the left-back position, saying: “Man Utd will sign a left-back because they know Tyrell Malacia is struggling, also the injuries of Luke Shaw this season. [They] will go for a young, talented and good, important left-back. This is the idea of the club and also agreed with the manager.”
This push is to prevent a repeat of last season which saw both the first and second choice left backs of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia ruled out for extensive periods through injury.
Reports from Football365 claim that United have found the solution to their left-back problem in the form of 22-year-old Miguel Gutierrez.
Gutierrez has been playing his trade for Girona for the two years after joining from Real Madrid, however Madrid are looking to invoke their buy back clause for £8 million to ultimately sell the star on for a profit, with United in the driving seat as the favourites to secure the Spanish star’s signature.
Madrid have reportedly ‘already informed Girona that they will exercise the purchase option they reserved for him, which is valued at just eight million euros, a real bargain’.
Gutierrez has had an amazing season for Girona, being an essential part of their La Liga campaign, supporting the club to achieve their highest ever finish, coming third, securing Champions League football for the first time ever.
Across 35 appearances in the league, Gutierrez even grabbed two goals, both against Barcelona each time they faced the Catalan side in La Liga, and backed this up with seven assists across the league.
The report explains that United have already pledged £34 million for the left-back with ten Hag ‘obsessed’ with the player set to represent Spain at this summer’s Olympics.
