As part of the senior shake up since the start of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s reign at United, the Red Devils are now looking to bring in Christopher Vivell to support with this summer’s transfer window.
The club is looking to be taking on a rebuild project, both on and off the pitch with Omar Berrada recently expressing the importance of getting the structure right throughout the club to ensure success on the pitch.
This came on the back of the announcement that Dan Ashworth has been freed from his garden leave at Newcastle United and is due to start at Old Trafford right away, as sporting director, joining Jason Wilcox as technical director, who has joined from Southampton.
Now, The Athletic are reporting that United are looking to bring in ex-Chelsea technical director, Christopher Vivell, to help with this summer’s transfer market.
But who is Christopher Vivell?
Well, as a player, Vivell bounced around a number of lower level German squads, however in his post-playing days, Vivell has made a bit of a name for himself.
Starting as a video analyst at Hoffenheim Youth in 2010, within three years the German had moved through to being a scout for the second squad, before becoming their match analyst, and then being promoted to the first team as a match analyst and then scout.
The impressive rise through his roles did not go unnoticed, being scouted two years later by RedBull Salzburg and was recruited as their Head of Scouting before becoming their Sports Coordinator.
Whilst in his role as Head of Scouting, Vivell was the man behind the rise of Patson Daka, Karim Adeyemi and the now Premier League stars Dominik Szoboszlai and Erling Haaland.
Four years later and Vivell had done such a great job that the owners moved the now 37-year-old to RedBull Leipzig where he took on the role of Technical Director and Squad Planner.
Whilst in the hot seats at RB Leipzig, Vivell was responsible for the selling of Timo Werner, Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate, all of which were massive sales for the club.
Two years later, Vivell moved to Chelsea as the Technical Director at Stamford Bridge and has now been without a club since last summer.
Vivell brings a wealth of expertise in talent ID and player recruitment, as well as an impressive knowledge of working in a multi-club model, which United are now experiencing with INEOS also owning OGC Nice, despite the thoughts of selling the French club.
With such an impressive track record, it’s understandable why Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants his support during this period of rebuilding at Old Trafford, with United working on an initial short-term deal for the 37-year-old.
