It seems that the Dutch are really establishing themselves at Old Trafford this summer, with United now looking to another Netherland international after some stunning performances at Euro 2024.
Erik ten Hag’s contract has finally been agreed in the recent weeks for the Dutch manager to remain at the helm of the Premier League club until 2026, with his fellow countrymen Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy now joining the coaching staff at ten Hag’s request.
Now ten Hag is strengthening the squad as part of the rebuild the team is going through and is using his experience of certain players to help the squad.
It’s well known that the Dutch manager is a huge fan of Matthijs de Ligt after heir time together at Ajax where ten Hag appointed the centre-back as Ajax’s youngest even captain, a move which paid off with the club winning the domestic double with the Eredivisie league title and Toto KNVB Beker cup win.
De Ligt is equally excited about a move to United to reunite with the manager which launched his career, with personal terms already agreed between the defender and the Premier League club.
Another Dutchman to join the ranks of the Red Devils is Joshua Zirkzee, the strike target that United have been battling AC Milan for over the recent weeks. Fabrizio Romano has recently announced that the deal has been agreed for over €40 million with the striker agreeing a five year contract which will see him at the club until 2029.
Now, United are turning to the Netherlands’ star of the European Championships in Germany to boost their ranks even further.
Xavi Simmons has had a truly incredible tournament, featuring in all of the Netherlands’ games, grabbing an early goal against England in the Semi-Final which unfortunately wasn’t enough to secure their ticket to the final. Simons also managed to grab some vital assists, registering three across the competition, including two in the Round of 16 in their 3-0 win over Romania.
This season Simons has been on loan to RedBull Leipzig whilst being retained by his parent club PSG where he returned in 2023 from PSV Eindhoven for €4 million, after having left the French capital in 2022 on a free transfer.
While at Leipzig, Simons has really made a name for himself, helping the club to come fourth in the Bundesliga and to win the DFL-Supercup in a 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich. Across all competitions, Simons has made a total of 43 appearances, grabbing ten goals and fifteen assists, showing off his versatility as he’s been used on both wings and in attacking midfield.
It’s been report by The Sun, that not are United interested in the star, but Bayern Munich are also keen for the winger to join their ranks, with RB Leipzig also looking to retain their recent star.
Whilst the 21-year-old has now returned to Paris at the end of his loan, his time in the French capital is undecided with the winger keen for consistent game-time which PSG manager Luis Enrique may not want to offer him.
After his meteoric rise over the last year, PSV Eindhoven may be cashing in on their hefty sell on clause included in the deal for PSG to resign him with the star now being valued at around £70 million, meaning a massive profit for the Dutch club who signed him on a free.
