As the season starts to come to a close, rumours begin to emerge on the future of certain managers.

Whether it’s because of poor results or availability of another man, pressure starts to get ramped up if a manager is not having a good time of things. It’s fair to say Erik ten Hag is not having a good time of things right now.

Yes – Manchester United have made it to their second FA Cup final in a row. But the manner of victory seems to have indicated to many that his time at the club is up. Letting a 3-0 lead slip up against Championship Coventry City with less than 20 minutes to go was unbelievable. And when Coventry thought they’d scored a winner in the final minute of extra-time, many were already writing the obituary for ten Hag. The fact that the goal was disallowed and United progressed on penalties seemed to just paper over the cracks for many.

This is because it’s not the first time that Erik ten Hag’s reign has been called into question. For months now, specifically since INEOS have come into the club, there have been a number of names linked to the United hotseat. And now one of those linked names has been in talks with Liverpool to become their new manager.

DaveOCKOP are reporting that Wolverhampton Wanderers’ manager Gary O’Neil has been in talks to take over from Jurgen Klopp next season.

O’Neil to Liverpool?

It was revealed last month that O’Neil had been in talks with United for some sort of role at the club. That link was seen as a shock. But this new link to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool would arguably be even more shocking.

The publication does state that it’s not concrete that O’Neil will become the next Liverpool manager. Their report states that the former Bournemouth manager is just one of the names being explored by the Anfield club. It is possible still that Liverpool will opt for a different manager. But it’s still big news nonetheless.

It’s not that much of a surprise, however. O’Neil was previously Liverpool under 23 assistant manager – so he’s known to the club. And newly appointed sporting director Richard Hughes knows O’Neil from his time on the South Coast at Bournemouth. So there are existing connections there to O’Neil.

Either way, it’s going to be an interesting summer for both clubs. We know that Liverpool are on the hunt for a new manager, but will that be the case for United? And would United fans want O’Neil at the club or are you happy to see him go to Anfield? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.
