Manchester United are looking to strengthen their current squad in the January transfer window, identifying a replacement for Casemiro.

Live at Old Trafford started well for Casemiro after arriving from Real Madrid in 2022 for £60 million, grabbing seven goals and six assists in 51 games.

However, his second year at the club saw a vast difference for the Brazilian, with him being out of action injured for two months and being used to cover the centre-back role amongst a plague of injuries.

Now, Casemiro has found himself demoted to the bench, failing to provide the intensity which new manager Ruben Amorim is looking for.

Having only grabbed three goals in 20 matches, Casemiro has found himself on the list of planned departures over the coming months, with United already lining up his replacement.

Manchester United look to Ederson to replace Casemiro

United have been long-term fans of Atalanta’s Ederson, having scouted him throughout hte summer, yet failing to move for the star.

Now, The Red Devils are renewing their interest in the 25-year-old.

Ederson has been a key member of the Atalanta side that are currently leading in Serie A and set to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League.

As such, Tuttomercatoweb has reported that United would need to part with £50 million to sign the central midfielder, which INEOS could be persuaded to agree to.

However, it’s expected that if United are looking to get the deal over the line, several sales would need to be completed first, with the club already cutting costs drastically to combat financial pressures.
