So far this transfer window, even in its early stages, we’ve seen United be linked to a whole host of players across all different positions. United are looking to strengthen their squad both to deliver better performances next season, and to be ready for any injury issues that may surface, trying to avoid the struggles they faced this season.
We’ve heard of links to defenders Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton, Bournemouth’s Milos Kerez and Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice. Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise on the wing has also been rumoured alongside young stars of tomorrow like Desire Doue of Stade Rennais and IFK Goteborg’s Malick Yalcouye.
Now it’s being reported that the Red Devils are lining up an incredible bid for one of the top young midfielders in the world, determined to secure his signature and bring him to Old Trafford.
With players like Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes being targets from other teams, especially mega money from Saudi Arabia, it’s unsurprising that United are now looking around to bring in top quality players.
Benfica’s Joao Neves definitely brings the quality, with the 19-year-old being a key part of the Portuguese club’s season, coming second to Sporting in the Liga Portugal, only missing one game across all competitions.
The Portuguese midfielder is no stranger to silverware, having supported Benfica to win Liga Portugal in the 2022/23 season on his debut year with the senior squad, and also winning the Supertaca Candido de Oliveira, or Portuguese Super Cup this year, beating Porto 2-0 in the final.
It’s no surprise that with the youngster attracting so much hype, there’s a lot of interest in his signature.
Portuguese publication O Jogo have reported that big-name teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and PSG are all rivalling United for the 19-year-old’s signature.
With United’s new rumoured transfer policy of looking to sign young players with heaps of potential, Neves fits into this perfectly, however the midfielder does come with a £102 million release clause and his contract is still active for another four years.
According to O Jogo, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has identified the Portuguese star as a sensation he wants to be a vital element to the United squad going forwards.
Whether United do officially put in a bid, Neves is definitely expected to make waves during this transfer window.
