Manchester United are joining Premier League rivals in pursuing one of Ruben Amorim‘s former stars.
Before moving to Old Trafford, Amorim had a successful stint at Sporting Lisbon, winning five trophies in four years.
Throughout this time, the Portuguese manager harness the incredible potential of stars like Viktor Gyokeres, Ousmane Diomande and Francisco Trincao, all of which have been recently linked to a move to United.
However, its another Sporting star that is stirring up a lot of interest ahead of the January transfer window.
The Sun has reported that United are now joining Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Wolves, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest in their pursuit of Dario Essugo.

Manchester United look to Dario Essugo
Dario Essugo is a product of Sporting’s academy, having joined the senior squad in 2023.
The 19-year-old has already been on loan with Chaves for the second half of last season and is currently on another loan spell with Las Palmas.
With 12 appearances for the Spanish club, grabbing his first and only goal so far for Las Palmas against RCD Mallorca in November, the defensive midfielder has become a key part of the squad fighting in the middle section of the table.
With Amorim’s experience of Sporting and its squad, Essugo has been hailed as “very talented” by his former manager.
United are desperate for new, fresh talent to join the club and help turn the results around, with Essugo’s links to Amorim potentially giving United a boost in their pursuit of him.
