“We signed young players. We’re a work in progress.”
This was Erik ten Hag’s defence of Manchester United’s performance against FC Twente last night.
United drew 1-1 to the Eredivisie side in the opening game of their Europa League campaign.
Ten Hag referenced the young signings of Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro to argue that his project at United is one for the future.

European Clubs Scout Ivorian Talent
United have their eyes on another young superstar to help solve their issues in front of goal, according to Swedish news outlet Fotboll Skanalen.
18-year-old left-winger Bazoumana Toure plays in the Swedish first division for Hammarby.
Both United and Arsenal scouts are confirmed to be in attendance for Hammarby’s game against Hacken tonight.
Joining them are scouts from Wolves, Brighton, Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg.
Multiple European clubs are vying for the forward’s signature, with Hammarby admitting that they are prepared to let him go.
Sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg is aware that Toure’s days at the club are numbered, amidst this wave of European interest.
“We need to plan for a future without him. Then if it happens this winter, next summer or even further than that … we’ll see.”
“But the longer we get to keep him the better”, he said.

Toure has scored six goals and registered three assists in 16 games this season for Hammarby.
The Ivorian is valued at €6m and is signed to Hammarby until 2028, according to Transfermarkt.
However, with his lengthy contract, Hammarby will likely demand more than this fee, especially if a wealthy club like United come knocking.
With Antony’s future in doubt, a move for Toure could very well be on the cards for the Red Devils.
