Bologna manager Thiago Motta has been doing an excellent job with the Italian club, and he commendably has them vying for the Champions League.

As such, the young manager has been subject to interest all across Europe.

As La Repubblica reported yesterday, the Brazilian is most likely going to leave Rossoblu at the end of the season for a big club.

According to Gazzetta, Man Utd chiefs are among the biggest admirers of the PSG legend, and they could consider a move for him with his contract with Bologna expiring at the end of the season.

He took charge of Bologna in September 2022 and impressively guided them to a ninth place finish last campaign.

This season has been even better for Motta as he has Bologna fourth in Serie A 5 points ahead of 5th place as the season nears its conclusion.

The former Barça and Inter Milad midfielder is best known for his 2-7-2 formation, which he introduced to the world.

It does sound admittedly impractical but her is the catch: Motta reads his team from left to right rather than the orthodox defender, midfielders, strikers format.

As such, 2-7-2 implies two on the left flank in the left back and left-winger, the centre backs, midfielders, goalkeeper and centre forward form the 7 and the right back and right-winger are the final 2.

Taking out how Motta approaches his line-ups, they do conform to the more traditional 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 on occasion.

Explaining his new outrageous approach in 2018, Motta said: “My idea it to play offensively. A short team that controls the game, high pressure and a lot of movement with and without the ball.”

“The goalkeeper counts as one of the midfield seven. For me, the attacker is the first defender and the goalkeeper is the first attacker,” he concluded.

Should Manchester United decide to sack Erik ten Hag, perhaps Motta could be a viable option, as he is the very embodiment of these young promising managers.
