Manchester United have confirmed the departure of Brazilian winger Antony, who has joined Real Betis on loan until the end of the season.
The move comes amid ongoing challenges at Old Trafford, with Antony failing to make the desired impact since his high-profile arrival from Ajax.
Antony arrived at United in 2022 for a substantial £81 million fee, making him one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history.

Despite a promising start, scoring in each of his first three Premier League matches, his form faltered, and he struggled to secure a consistent role under successive managers.
His time at United was further hampered by off-field controversies and a lack of impactful contributions, with just three starts in all competitions this season.
Ruben Amorim, United’s current head coach, had publicly expressed his preference to retain Antony, stating his focus on the squad’s existing players.
However, the club opted to sanction the loan move, citing the need for the player to gain more first-team opportunities.
Antony’s agent, Junior Pedroso, had hinted at such a possibility, emphasizing the importance of his client regaining confidence and playing time.
Reports indicate that Betis will cover a significant portion of Antony’s wages during his stint in Spain.

United have ensured a unique clause in the deal, safeguarding Antony’s involvement on the pitch.
This “penalty” clause requires Betis to pay a fee if Antony does not receive sufficient playing time during his loan spell, a move designed to guarantee his development according to The Mirror.
The deal does not include an option to buy, underscoring United’s intention to reassess Antony’s role within the squad next summer.
In a statement, United extended their best wishes to Antony, expressing hope for his success at Betis.
Antony now joins Betis, looking to rediscover his form and reignite his career, while United focus on rebuilding amidst a challenging season.
