Manchester United are currently in the process of reorganising their side to fit into Ruben Amorim’s system.
The current squad was assembled under Erik ten Hag for around £600 million. However, ten Hag operated with a 4-2-3-1, whilst Amorim utilises a 3-4-3.
The biggest change in the tactic comes on the wings, with Amorim rolling the full-back and winger roles into one wing-back position.
Unfortunately for United, the left-back role has been an issue for some time with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have been injured for some time now.
Whilst the pair looked set to return, Shaw is once more injured, leading to United have to search for a long-term replacement for the England international.
Whilst players like Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu have been considered, with AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez also making the shortlist, a new name has now joined them.
Whilst United have been scouting within Europe, their new target is a little further afield in South America.

Manchester United target a new left-back
La Nación has reported that The Red Devils are now looking in Paraguay to Cerro Porteno’s Diego Leon.
The 17-year-old was promoted to the senior squad this summer, already making 19 appearances for the side, grabbing two goals.
The report explains that United have opened talks with Cerro Porteno regarding a potential transfer.
According to César Luis Merlo, the clubs are in “very advanced negotiations” with a fee agreed of £3.14 million. However, some finer points like a percentage of future sales are still being discussed.
However, any agreed deal won’t be able to be made official until after Leon’s 18th birthday in April 2025.
